This is the hint.
This new volume of general knowledge Jumbo crosswords from the pages of The Times rescues another 60 puzzles from the archive of ephemeral things. They were originally published over the period February 2015 to February 2016, comprising almost exactly a full year’s worth, given the extra Easter, Christmas and Bank Holiday puzzles interpolated among the standard weekly fare. In addition, there is one puzzle in this batch that weekly solvers of the paper edition will not have seen. Puzzle 51 was published solely online on Christmas Day itself and is appearing here on paper for the first time.
Regular solvers should recognize the usual mixture of straight definition clues with a smattering of general knowledge thrown into the mix. Anyone new to the series I hope will find the level of challenge just about right. I aim to entertain, not to baffle, in my choice of words and their clues. If you feel you need occasionally to consult a dictionary then a single volume one such as Collins English Dictionary should be quite sufficient.
My thanks go to the team at HarperCollins for their efficient work on presentation and also to Roger Phillips for once more proofreading my efforts. Any remaining errors are, of course, my sole responsibility. I hope you enjoy solving the puzzles.
